  1. Comment from Amber Jaeger that was emailed to me Sunday 9/15/19
(My blog is having tech difficultites and she is unable to comment directly to my post. I will look to see how to correct this)

Looks like you will be with students three half days a week, correct? Do you happen to know how many hours each day you will be working?

I see time in your are is in your near future. I'm familiar with the area and know those districts are not as close as they seem. Will you at one district each day or traveling between multiple in the same day?

The DHH teacher's you are working with, are they employed by CESA?

Look slike 8 kiddos (Pre-K to High School), with most of them being in the elementary age group. Do you have any experience working with this age group? The younger they are the more needs they tend to have.

    1. Yes I will be working with students three half days.
      Tuesday (Edgar, Abbotsford) 3 hours
      Wednesday (Merrill) 1 hour
      Thursday (DC Everest) 2 hours

Tuesday I will be traveling between two districts otherwise Wednesday and Thursday I will be in the same district. Yes, there is a lot of driving.

No, neither teacher is employed through CESA. Stefanie Kessen, who I will be working with on Tuesdays, is contracted and employed through Marathon County Social Services. Marathon County Social Services delivers the special education services for most of the school districts in Marathon County. Barbara Arndt is contracted and employed with both Merrill School District and DC Everest School district for the services she delivers in their districts.

Yes, the majority of the students that I will be working with this semester are elementary age group. Upon consideration that most of my current class work is concerning language and communication, the three of us (Stefanie, Barb and myself) thought it best to have the opportunity to apply these skills during my teaching experience.
Oh yes, I am aware that the younger students have more needs and I do believe I have the personality and a little bit of a background (I have been a substitute teacher for 10 years, Cub Scout Den Leader (1st grade boys) for 8 years, and a mom to three boys for 16 years) to give me a foundation so I am not lost in some of the daily struggles of working with younger students but am able to focus on the content these students are working to learn and the wisdom and example from my teacher mentors.
      Thank you.

  2. Here we go! I'm think I have too many Google accounts on my personal computer and every time I clicked it would jump back and fourth between the account I wanted to use (this one) and the default account. Hopefully this works!

From your email: Yes. I lived in Wausau for 2 years while I attended NTC for educational interpreting.

So, it looks like it's going to average out to about 6 hours per week. You need a total of 75 for the semester. That's like 12.5 weeks. I just want to make sure you get them all in so you don't miss anything at the end.

Employed by Social Services and she's a DHH teacher? That's fascinating! I have never hear of that! I know those smaller districts tend to do things their own way due to the low need and even lower number of teachers. I'll be interested to see how she manages things like IEPs, parent teacher conferences, progress reports, etc. That always gets tricky when you're not employed by a sole district. Same for Barbra who splits her time between two.

I didn't realize you were a substitute. Some of those skills will for sure come in handy!

  3. Hi Shannon,

Just wanted to check in and see if you've heard anything more from Barb? I did not get a reply to my email to the Special Ed Director in DC Everest. Please let Barb know I contacted the Director and to follow up with her.

Amber, just a bit of background....Barb told Shannon (I think it was Thursday morning) that her boss hadn't received anything from Amy O about the UWM coursework and couldn't allow Shannon to shadow until she had more information. So I immediately sent the syllabi and the clinical teaching experience handbook. If needed, I will follow up again Monday.
